A brief background
The AAC Speech Clinic was founded in March 2018 by Katherine Wallisch M.S., CCC-SLP a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and is passionate about working with families on how to augment communication for children and adults with complex communication needs.

Speech & Language Assessment
Speech & Language Assessment
A thorough Speech & Language Assessment is conducted using a variety of informal and criterion referenced assessments in order to gauge your child's communication abilities. This is a one hour session in the clinic.

Communication Device Trial
Based on the outcome fo the two previous assessments the AAC Specialist (SLP) will then conduct a 4-week trial period with a variety of devices in order to tailor the most efficient communication method for our patients.
Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC) Assessment
Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC) Assessment
If the Speech & Language Assessment demonstrated a gap between receptive and expressive language abilities then a more detailed AAC Assessment will be done. This can include low-tech (non-speech generating), mid-tech or high-tech AAC. This assessment can take up to 2.5 hours. Depending on AAC Specialist this assessment is conducted either in home or in clinic.

The final step is prescribing the device in order to finally give functional communication throughout the multitude of activities that both our adult and pediatric clients want to partake in.
